2014 - NDRRMC : Yolanda death toll rises to 6,190

MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from super typhoon Yolanda slightly rose to 6,190 as seven more bodies were recovered by authorities, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Thursday.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said that the number of injured persons remained at 28, 626 and missing still at 1,785. The NDRRMC also reported that the more than 3.4 million families or over 16 million persons were affected by the powerful typhoon in 44 provinces, 591 municipalities and 57 cities of Regions 4-A, 4-B, 5, ,6 ,7, 8, 10, 11 and Caraga.

Of the total affected population, over four million individuals have been displaced from their homes as Yolanda destroyed more than 1.1 million houses, the state disaster response agency said.

The NDRRMC said that total cost of damage in infrastructure and agriculture caused by the superhowler in the Visayas region remained at P36.6 billion.
